Dr. Gururaj Deshpande – Co-founder, Chairman, Deshpande Foundation
Gururaj “Desh” Deshpande is a Trustee of the Deshpande Foundation along with his wife Jaishree. He is also the President and Chairman of Sparta Group LLC, a family investment office and the Chairman of Tejas Networks. Dr. Deshpande has pursued an entrepreneurial career for the last three decades. He is involved either as founder, founding investor or chairman of several companies including Cascade Communications, Sycamore Networks, Coral Networks, Tejas Networks, Cimaron, Webdialogs, Airvana, Sandstone Capital, A123 Systems and Curata. Dr. Deshpande lives in Boston and serves as a life-member of the MIT Corporation. His support has made possible MIT’s Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation.The Deshpande Foundation strengthens ecosystems that create significant social and economic impact through entrepreneurship and innovation. Leveraging the experience gained at the MIT Center, the Deshpande Foundation has facilitated the setup of five other centers; Deshpande Center for Social Entrepreneurship in India, EforAll (formerly known as the Merrimack Valley Sandbox) in Lowell/Lawrence Massachusetts, the Pond-Deshpande Center at the University of New Brunswick in Canada, the Dunin Deshpande Queens Innovation Center at Queens University in Kingston, Ontario and the Gopalakrishnan Deshpande Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras, India. Deshpande Foundation also provided the founding grant for MassChallenge in Boston, National Science Foundation Innovation Corps (I-Corps™), Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI) and the UPOP program at MIT Dr. Deshpande holds a B.Tech. in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology – Madras, an M.E. from the University of New Brunswick in Canada, and Ph.D. from Queens University in Canada. Deshpande co-chaired the National Council to support President Obama’s innovation and entrepreneurship strategy from 2010 to 2015.
Senapathy ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan – Co- Founder; former Vice-Chairman and CEO, Infosys Technologies Limited
Senapathy ‘Kris’ Gopalakrishnan served as the Vice Chairman of Infosys from 2011 to 2014, and as its Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director from 2007 to 2011. Kris is one of the co-founders of Infosys. Recognized as a global business and technology thought leader, he was voted the top CEO (IT services category) in Institutional Investor’s inaugural ranking of Asia’s Top Executives. He was selected as one of the winners of the 2nd Asian Corporate Director Recognition Awards by Corporate Governance Asia in 2011. In 2009, Kris was also selected to Thinkers 50, an elite list of global business thinkers. He was elected President of India’s apex industry chamber, the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) during 2013 – 14, and served as one of the co-chairs of the World Economic Forum in Davos in January, 2014. In January 2011, the Government of India awarded Kris the Padma Bhushan, the country’s third highest civilian honor. He serves on the Board of Governors of Indian Institute of Technology Madras, and Indian Institute of Management Bangalore. He is the Chairman of the Board of Governors of IIIT Bangalore, and is also on the Board of Trustees of the Chennai Mathematical Institute. Kris holds master’s degrees in physics and computer science from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras.
Prof. Devang Khakhar – Director, IIT Bombay
Professor Devang Khakhar is currently Director of IIT Bombay and Professor of Chemical Engineering. Professor Khakhar did his B.Tech. from IIT Delhi in 1981 and his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst in 1986. He joined the Department of Chemical Engineering at IIT Bombay in January 1987, and has been with the Institute since then. Prof. Khakhar’s research interests include mechanics of granular materials and polymer processing. He has published over 100 papers in these areas. For his research achievements, Prof. Khakhar has been accorded several prestigious awards, which include the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize (1997) and the Swarnajayanti Fellowship (1998).
Prof. Khakhar is also a recipient of IIT Bombay’s “Excellence in Teaching Award” and the “Mathur Award for Research Excellence”. He has recently received the prestigious D.M. Trivedi Lifetime Achievement Award from the Indian Chemical Council. He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Indian National Science Academy, the Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India.
Prof. Khakhar served on the Science Advisory Council to the Prime Minister of India (SAC-PM) and Scientific Advisory Committee of the Cabinet (SAC-C). He serves on several national and international Committees and Boards including the Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB), DRDO Science & Technology Management Council (DSTMC), International Academic Advisory Panel of the Government of Singapore, to mention a few.
Prof. Khakhar has served as Professor-in-Charge of IIT Bombay’s Continuing Education Program from 2001-02, as Head of the Department of Chemical Engineering from 2002-04, and the Dean of Faculty Affairs from 2005-08. He has been the Director of IIT Bombay since January 2009.
Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi – Director, Indian Institute of Technology Madras
Prof. Bhaskar Ramamurthi got his B.Tech in Electronics from IIT Madras in 1980, and his M.S. and Ph.D in Electrical Engineering from the University of California at Santa Barbara, in 1982 and 1985 respectively. After working at AT&T Bell Laboratories for a couple of years, he joined the faculty of IIT Madras, his alma mater in 1986. He took over as Director, IIT Madras in September 2011.

Mr. Krish Nangegadda – Founder, President & CEO, MerWin Growth Partners
Mr. Krishna P. Nangegadda (Krish) is an accomplished business leader, successful serial entrepreneur, and an angel investor.
As a member of the Advisory Board of Northeastern University’s Centre for Entrepreneurship Education, he helps set the direction and strategy for the NU-IDEA Venture Accelerator (www.northeastern.edu/idea), which is home for 500+ start-ups, several of which have seen significant external capital inflows including a number of successful exits.
Mr. Nangegadda started his entrepreneurial journey in 1986 in Vijayawada, India, where he introduced PCs to the region for the first time, and helped local industry and small businesses automate their business processes. He earned several awards and recognition for his pioneering role in spreading computer culture in the then Coastal Andhra Pradesh. His businesses in the United States were equally successful, and were listed in Inc. 100 list of fastest growing private companies, as well as Washington Technology Fast 50 and Deloitte’s Regional 50. He helped the United States Department of Defense transform their HR processes using web technologies. He served on the Board of Homeland Security & Defense Business Council (www.homelandcouncil.org), a DC based private advocacy group.
Most recently, he helped forge a partnership between Andhra Pradesh Govt. and Northeastern University to start the International Institute of Entrepreneurship Development, or i2E, to help stir up an entrepreneurship ecosystem in the state of Andhra Pradesh, India, and to offer entrepreneurship as a career choice for students. He acts as i2E’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence.

Prof. Rakesh Basant – IIM, Ahmedabad
Dean, Alumni and External Relations (AER), Professor of Economics and JSW Professor of Innovation and Public Policy at the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad. Current teaching and research interests focus on firm strategy, innovation, intellectual property rights, entrepreneurial business models, public policy & regulation. Recent research has focused on capability building processes in industrial clusters, Foreign Direct Investment in R&D, innovation-internationalization linkages, competition policy, inter-organizational linkages for technology development (especially academia-industry relationships), incubation models in higher education institutions, emerging entrepreneurial patterns and eco-system in India, strategic and policy aspects of intellectual property rights, linkages between public policy and technological change, economics of strategy, the small scale sector in India and policy issues in higher education. Sectoral focus of the research in the aforementioned areas has been on Pharmaceutical, IT, Electronics and Auto-component industries. Was a member of the Indian Prime Minister’s High-Level Committee (also known as Sachar Committee) that wrote a report on the Social, Economic and Educational Conditions of Muslims in India. In continuation of this work, part of current research focuses on issues relating to Muslims, especially affirmative action in higher education. He has taught at Universities abroad and worked as a consultant to several international organizations.
Prof. Rajen Jaswa – Founder Member, TiE Silicon Valley
Raj Jaswa is an accomplished serial technology entrepreneur. Raj currently teaches Engineering Entrepreneurship at IIT Bombay, IIT Gandhinagar, VNIT Nagpur and TiE Silicon Valley. His most recent role was CEO and Chairman of Dyyno from 2009 to 2012. Dyyno’s user-friendly communication platform seamlessly transports audio, video, text, graphics and voice for live, interactive instant sharing with audiences of unlimited size across multiple devices. From 2003-2008, he volunteered full-time for TiE Silicon Valley, serving as President from 2005 to 2008 and as a Director from 2003 to 2004. TiE is the world’s largest nonprofit dedicated to helping entrepreneurs. Raj served on TiE’s Global Board of Trustees for 5 years.
Before TiE, Raj was co-founder, Chairman, and CEO of Selectica from 1996 to 2002. During Raj’s tenure, Selectica became the leading configuration software vendor with customers like General Electric, BMW, Cisco, Samsung, and Dell. Selectica went public in 2000 with a peak market value of $5 billion, and was named to the Forbes 500, Deloitte &Touche Technology Fast 500, Software 500, Inc 500, and Interactive Week 500.
Previously, Raj co-founded Opti in 1988, where he served first as EVP of Sales and Marketing and then as President until 1996. During Raj’s tenure, Opti became the world’s largest supplier of chipsets for personal computers, powering the PCs made by IBM, Hewlett Packard, Dell, and Compaq. Opti went public in 1993 with a peak market value of $350 million. Earlier in his career, Raj worked for Intel, General Electric, and Chips & Technologies. He received a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology in Bombay , a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Toronto , and an MBA from Stetson University .
Prof. Sanjay Mahajani – IIT Bombay
Prof. Sanjay Mahajani received his Bachelors and Ph. D. Degrees in Chemical Engineering from UDCT (now known as ICT), Mumbai in 1989 and 1996, respectively, and the Master’s degree from IIT Bombay in 1992. After completing his Ph.D., he worked in Monash University, Australia (1996-2000) for a period of four years as post-doctoral research fellow. He joined IIT-Bombay as Assistant Professor in 2000, and is presently a full professor (2008-date) in Department of Chemical engineering. He also holds a position of Professor-in-charge of the newly formed Tata Centre of Technology and Design at IITB. Prof. Mahajani’s research interests are Applied catalysis, Process intensification, and Coal and biomass gasification. He has worked on several industry sponsored projects that include catalyst development, reactive distillation and its applications, and underground coal gasification. He has 120 international papers and has more than 50 conference presentations to his credit. His awards include – IIChE’s young scientist Amar Dye Chem award (2002), Manudhane awards for applied research (2006) and UG teaching (2007) at IITB, and IIT-Bombay’s excellence in teaching award (2008m 2017). He has guided 27 Ph. D.s and more than 40 Masters students till date.
Prof. Satyanarayanan Seshadri – IIT Madras
Prof. Satyanarayanan Seshadri (Satya) is a faculty member in Applied Mechanics at IIT Madras. He is in charge of IITM Nirmaan and a faculty advisor to CFI (Center for innovation – an IITM student led tinkering lab, which has launched over a dozen start-ups in the last 10 years). A PhD from Texas A&M and postdoctoral fellow from Rutgers University, Satya was with General Electric’s Global Research Center as a lead researcher in the aerothermal and mechanical systems group and with Forbes Marshall’s exploratory R&D center prior to joining IITM. He is the director of EnERG lab, whose research focus is on energy technologies for next generation thermal power systems, electro-chemical storage, and mechanical energy storage and on emission monitoring/control technologies. IITM Nirmaan is a pre-incubator on campus that serves to develop and nurture student led enterprises before they are ready to launch. Dr. R. David Koilpillai – IIT Madras
R. David Koilpillai received the B.Tech degree from IIT Madras, and the MS, PhD degrees (in Electrical Engineering) from California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, USA.Work Experience:
In June 2002, David joined IIT Madras and currently holds the Qualcomm Institute Chair Professorship in Electrical Engineering. He served as Dean (Planning) during 2011-2017, handling the portfolios of infrastructure, finance and strategic planning. The period April 2008 – December 2009, he served as the Co-Chair of the IITM special Task Force for setting up the new IIT at Hyderabad. David also served as Head, Central Electronics Centre of IITM during 20010-11. David’s technical areas of expertise include cellular and broadband wireless systems, and DSP techniques for wireless communications. He is the Faculty Coordinator of the IITMSAT Student Satellite initiative. During Jan – July 2007, David was on sabbatical from IITM and served as the Chief Scientist, Centre of Excellence in Wireless Technology (CEWiT), a public-private R&D initiative of the Govt. of India, and was responsible for launching the national project – Broadband Wireless Consortium of India (BWCI). Prior to joining IITM, David was at Ericsson USA for twelve years, where he held different technical and managerial positions. In 2000, he became the Director of the Ericsson’s Advanced Technologies and Research Department at RTP, North Carolina. In this role, he was responsible for an R&D team of 75 engineers developing GPRS/EDGE handset technology. Dr. Kerry Healey – President- Babson College
Dr. Kerry Healey took office as President of Babson College in July 2013, following three decades of service in academia, government and humanitarian work in the United States and internationally. Healey is the thirteenth president of Babson College and the first woman to hold that position. Under her leadership, Babson has strengthened its reputation as the recognized global leader in entrepreneurship education, consistently ranked the No. 1 undergraduate school and No. 1 MBA program for entrepreneurship, and No. 1 for international students. He also guides Mastek Foundation, whose mission is to enable “Informed Giving and Responsible Receiving”.
Mr. Desai is widely recognized as an industry veteran and is one of the founder members & Past Chairman of NASSCOM. He was a former President of Asian Oceanian Computing Industry Organisation(ASOCIO), an Association of 20 countries in this region. Mr. Tarun Mehta – CEO & Co-Founder, Ather Energy
As CEO at Ather, Tarun drives the strategic thinking of the company while being closely involved in reviewing every aspect of the vehicle development. Tarun Mehta, a graduate of Engineering Design (Dual Degree 2012) from IIT Madras, along with his fellow student Swapnil Jain conceptualised and started ‘Ather Energy’ in April 2013. Ather is developing India’s first smart electric scooter that aims to revolutionize the concept of two wheeler driving in India. While at IIT, Tarun was associated with various product development teams and was actively involved with the entrepreneurship eco system (C-TIDES).
He worked upon more than a dozen prototypes over a wide range of topics and has six co-patents (pending), under his name. Driven by his core interest towards electric drive, Tarun quit his job at Ashok Leyland in the year 2012 to start work on battery packs which is one of the biggest existing shortcomings in electric vehicles today.
Eventually, realizing that the problem isn’t just the battery pack, the team was drawn to the idea of designing and building a completely new electric vehicle. As CEO at Ather, Tarun drives the strategic thinking for the company while being closely involved with the close-knit Ather team in reviewing every aspect of the vehicle development. He also represented Ather in the ‘Technical Advisory Group for Electric Mobility’ to the Government of India. And also lead the Electric Vehicle group in the Champions of Change program organised by Niti Aayog.

He did his B Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay followed by an MS from University of Iowa. After returning back to India, he has been involved in various companies. He is one of the promoters of KPIT Technologies Ltd. He has served on the board of several companies including KPIT, Spectrum Automation, LR Med, Galenus Scientific Inc. and various others. He has invested in various start-up companies as well.
He is the recipient of the prestigious “Distinguished Services Award” from IIT Bombay and worked closely with SINE, IIT Bombay in helping start-up companies there. He has also been one of the founding Charter Members of the TiE Pune chapter. He is the chairman of the MCCIA Electronics Cluster foundation and has served as the chairman of the Electronics Committee of the MCCIA. He was judged “Entrepreneur of the year” by various organizations.
He is an avid Bridge player and is the co-founder of the Y Point Orchestra wherein he plays the Piano Accordion. He lives in Pune with his wife and 2 children.
Mr. Salil Donde – CEO, Alpha Point
Salil Donde, is the Chief Executive Officer at AlphaPoint. Prior to joining AlphaPoint, Mr. Donde was Executive Vice President, Global Information Services at Nasdaq. In this role, Mr. Donde was responsible for leading the strategic direction and overseeing all aspects of the company’s Index and Data products businesses which provide solutions, intelligence and insight to the global capital markets. Mr. Donde was instrumental in launching several Machine Learning based products, data products, indexes and sponsored ETFs. Prior to joining Nasdaq, Mr. Donde served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Lewtan Technologies, Inc. He has also served as Chief Executive Officer and member of the Board of Directors of Marshall & Swift/Boeckh, and as President of Fiserv Life and Financial Software and Solutions, among the other leadership roles he has held in the broader financial services industry.
Mr. Donde received a Bachelor of Technology degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay; an M.S. degree from Clemson University; and an M.B.A. from Columbia University. Mr. Donde is currently an Adjunct Professor at IIT Bombay.
Mr. Rizwan Koita – CEO CitiusTech
As the Chief Executive Officer, Rizwan Koita drives CitiusTech’s worldwide business strategy, including healthcare technology innovation and healthcare domain expertise development. Under his leadership, CitiusTech (a General Atlantic company since 2014) has become one of the fastest growing healthcare technology solutions providers, with 3,500+ employees, serving more than 110 leading healthcare organizations worldwide. In 2018, CitiusTech made a strategic investment in FluidEdge Consulting (FEC), a specialized healthcare management consulting company based in Philadelphia (USA). Before CitiusTech, Mr. Koita co-founded TransWorks (now Concentrix) in mid-1999 and led the company as its CEO. Today, Minacs (recently acquired by Concentrix) has over 21,000 employees with over 35 operation centers across the globe. Earlier, he was a senior consultant with McKinsey & Co., where he consulted transnational clients on exploiting remote service opportunities. Mr. Koita is a winner of the 2013 Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award. He is also a recipient of the Indo-American Society’s ‘Young Achievers Award in Business.’ He has a Master’s Degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).
Mr. K R S Jamwal – Executive Director, Tata Industries
KRS Jamwal, as executive director of Tata Industries, is responsible for the incubation of new ventures as well as investments made by Tata Industries in new businesses. Mr Jamwal is also on the board of Tata companies such as Tata Advanced Materials, a leader in aerospace composite manufacturing; Tata UniStore, which owns Tata CLiQ, a one-of-a-kind, leading omni-channel marketplace; Tata SmartFoodz, a food innovations company engaged in the manufacture and marketing of delicious ready foods (where he serves as director and chairman of the board); and Inzpera Healthsciences, a health sciences company that markets palatable and efficacious therapeutic products (where he serves as director and chairman of the board). He is also a member on the board of the overseas subsidiary of Tata Industries — Qubit Investments PTE (Singapore). He represents Qubit on the boards of: Flisom AG, which manufactures flexible, lightweight solar modules at market-comparable efficiency and costs; i3 Equity Partners, a Tel Aviv based technology incubator in IoT (Internet of Things) and industrial IoT; and SDX Partners LLC, USA, which provides seed funding to student-initiated business ideas at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Boston.
Prior to joining Tata Industries, he served as vice president, strategy, group corporate centre, Tata Sons, assisting the then Group Chairman, Ratan Tata, on strategy-related matters concerning Tata companies and supporting him on special assignments such as the Investment Commission (2005-2009) and the US-India and UK-India CEO Forums.
Mr Jamwal started his career with TAS (formerly known as Tata Administrative Services) in 1989. His initial assignments included project management for setting up new hotels and flight catering units, with subsequent responsibilities relating to strategic planning and mergers and acquisitions for the Taj Group of hotels. He has a bachelor’s degree in technology in petroleum engineering from the Indian School of Mines, Dhanbad, and was awarded the scholastic gold medal and the best student shield. His post-graduation is in management from the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, where he was awarded the scholastic gold medal and the KV Srinivas Award for the best all-rounder.
